Heves-Borsod Hills
The hills north of the Mátrá and the Bükk are known as the Óbükk or Vajdavár Hills. Key settlements in the region are Ózd, Borsodnádasd and Pétervására.
The most attractive natural phenomena are the layered, banked outcrops of sandstone among which the most impressive are the Great Rock (Nagy-kő), a 100-metre cliff on the edge of Bükkszenterzsébet, and the Little Rock (Kis-kő), the protrusion above Tarnalelesz. At least as exotic is the sandstone wall called Noah's Grapes (Noé-szőlője) near Istenmező. The highest point in the Heves-Borsod Hills is the 541m Ox Hill (Ökör-hegy) by Borsodnádasd. Lake Arló was created by a landslide and is today a popular resort and angling spot.
Perhaps the most ancient local heritage is the church with 13th-century origins in Szentsimon, part of Ózd.
