Academy of Music - Ferenc Liszt University of Music (Zeneakademia), Budapest
Built between 1904 and 1907, the powerful facade of this Secession building of some 2,600 square metres catches the eye.
Designed by Kálmán Giergl and Flóris Korb, the exterior of this generous palace, with its wide windows, stress the significance of the building. Upon entering, visitors find themselves in a foyer with colourful, splendid ornamentation. The subdued lighting creates a reverential atmosphere.
The Great Hall (Nagyterem) is an outstanding example of early ferro concrete architecture in Hungary. Seating an audience of more than 1,200, it still has the best acoustics of any concert hall in Hungary.
The more modestly furnished Small Hall (Kisterem) seats 'only' 400. Its foyer is adorned with vernacular frescos by István Zichy.
