Alcsutdoboz

The settlement boasts one of Hungary's most attractive Classical buildings, the Habsburg Mansion set in a landscaped garden. Reaching out to the valley of St Ladislaus Stream, the outskirts of the village is abundant in meadows, reedy areas and floodplain woodlands.

The village is in a favourable location on the left bank of the brook in tha upper section of the Vál Valley. At the meeting point of the Mezőföld and the Vértes, it lies among picturesque hills.

Near the banks of St Ladsislaus Stream (Szent László-patak), Pagan Castle (Pogányvár), a Bronze Age earthen redoubt is located 500 metres southeast of the Alcsút-Göböljárás puszta. The mid Bronze Age construction with a diameter of 290 metres originates from the middle of the second millennium BC. It is probable that it served as a central encampment for the chieftains of the Bronze Age people who settled in the Carpathian Basin.

1818 was a turning point in the life of the village when palatine Joseph bought this charming land with its varied landscape. One of the most attractive Classical palaces of Hungary was erected here set in 44 hectares of landscaped garden with several hundred exotic and indigenous species of plants. The arboretum south of the settlement and the Csaplár forest have been designated a nature and bird reserve.

In the picturesque Mária Valley on the outskirts of the settlement, the Pannonia Golf and Country Club was opened in converted manor buildings in 1996.

How to get there:
By public transport, take a train on the Budapest-Tatabánya-Győr line. Local buses also serve the settlement from Budapest and Székesfehérvár. By car, look for the settlement south of Bicske on Route 811 to Székesfehérvár, between motorways M1 and M7.
