Arboretum, Godollo
The majority of the 354 hectare arboretum serves research purposes, one tenth as a park.
The arboretum was established on an area of 190 hectares in 1902 with the aim of naturalising tree species suitable for reforesting the sandy lands of the Great Plain. Then known as the Archduke Joseph Grove it had become the most significant botanical garden in Hungary by the 1920's, 1930's. The tree stock experienced serious damage during World War II.
130 gymnospermous and 650 deciduous tree and shrub species are to be found in this garden managed by the Forest Research Institute since 1960. The gene stocks of ornamental trees and shrubs and conifers are certified and recorded by the National Institute of Agricultural Quality Control (Országos Mezőgazdasági Minősítő Intézet).
There is wheelchair access to the arboretum.
