Sights within the national park
The National Park currently includes: Tihany Peninsula, Pécselyi Basin, Káli Basin, Tapolca Basin and the remnant hills; in Zala and Somogy Counties the Keszthely Hills, the Little Balaton as well as the bays and the entire lakeside of Lake Balaton.The Balaton Uplands National Park has informative exhibits in numerous settlements: the Forest House (Erdők Ház) in Bakonybél; the geological exhibit in Monoszló; the protected farm (természetvédelmi major) in Salföld; the regional house (tájház) presenting local fishing traditions in Vörs; the buffalo reserve (bivalyrezervátum) in Zalakomár; the watermill (vizimalom) in Zalaszán. Nature trails acquaint visitors with the local natural heritage in Tihany, Badacsony, Gerencepuszta, Balatonfüred and Zirc.
In the northern area of the Little Balaton is the Jakab Vönöczky Schenk Research House in
Fenékpuszta which carries out research into the most well-known areas of the national park playing a vital role in the protection of habitat and also providing exhibitions for visitors. The Little Balaton region may only be visited with special permission and an expert guide.
The centre of the national park administration is located in Veszprém (31 Vár utca) and has a permanent exhibition, publications, educational material and a computer information network for visitors.
