The exhibition examines the oeuvre of constructivist painter Jenő Barcsay (1900-1988), a master of modern art, starting with works from the 1920's and ending with his last piece.

Jenő Barcsay, a significant master of the constructivist movement of painting in Szentendre, worked on the old artists' colony from 1928. The 18th-century Baroque town house is home to his memorial museum. Among the exhibited artworks are the marble mosaic entitled Women (Asszonyok, 1963), the glass mosaic entitled Bartók's Memory (Bartók emléke), and his last works, tapestries from 1982-85. Furthermore, his outstanding early works and his paintings which were simplified to the extreme from the 1980's, represent the beginning and the end of an oeuvre.

Jenő Barcsay's art is a phenomenon, not only in Szentendre, but also as a part of 20th-century Hungarian art history: representative of the constructivist view, he was the author of Művészeti Anatómia (Artistic anatomy) a text used in arts education, as well as in medical training. The search for the essence beneath the surface, whether in a human figure or in a landscape, is characteristic of the artist's entire oeuvre. All of his figurative compositions are densely shaped creations that could easily lend themselves to fresco.
