Its outstandingly valuable collections include eastern carpets, tapestries, the Esterházy Treasury, aristocratic costumes from the 17th century, Italian majolica, secessionist glassware, Zsolnay Ceramics, French furniture, baroque goldsmiths' works from Augsburg, and the so-called small collections (leather, bone, paper).
 
 
The oldest and largest public collection in Hungary presents the history of the country in a permanent exhibition that stretches from the time of state establishmen (1000 AD) up to the democratic change of systems (1990 AD). It safeguards numerous priceless treasures.

Monuments
The Eclectic Parliament building, stretching along the Danube Bank, was designed by Imre Steindl. Not only is it an impressive site, so are the dimensions.
 
 
Part of the World Heritage Site, the Castle, and within it the Royal Palace, stand to the west of the Danube on a hill of marl. A labyrinth lies inside the hill, while centuries of architectural and cultural heritage are visible at ground level.
 
 
Europe's largest synagogue was built in Romantic style between 1854 and 1859 based on designs by Ludwig Förster, also incorporating work by Frigyes Feszl.
 
 
Although divided into three major sections, the avenue, which has been part of the World Heritage since 2002, shows an outstanding architectural homogeneity which can be explained by the fact it was completely built up in little over ten years.
 
In the nature
The Vácrátót botanical garden is the most significant in Hungary and the richest in terms of plant life. The buildings, structures and historic garden design of this 29 hectares of protected nature reserve form a protected heritage unit.
 
 
Established in 1997, the National Park lies north of the capital, and includes large areas of the Pilis and Börzsöny Hills between the Rivers Danube and Ipoly.
 
 
The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden is not only a place where you can see animals from Hungary and from far away, but also a place for education and entertainment. The garden has been a protected area since 1986.
 
 
The largest colony of bee eaters in Europe, some 50 to 60 pairs nest here annually from early May to autumn in hollows carved into the loess wall.
 
 
The capital's most beautiful and protected park is home to numerous rare and valuable plants that are a delight to the eye. On the Island there are also protected heritage buildings, as well as sports grounds and open-air swimming pools for leisure activities.
