Buzsak
Buzsák had gained world fame for its folk art and characteristic embroidery which employs a variety of stitching. The look of the town, in part, still preserves the traditional folk architecture. On the border of the community is the Csisztapuszta thermal bath.
The modern settlement has been in this location since the 16th century. By the 18th century it already had a school and a Roman Catholic church. At that time it was inhabited by Croatian settlers who by the end of the 19th century had been completely assimilated. Today, only some Slavic family names and the characteristic folk art motives preserve the memory of the ancestors.
The main square and Balaton Street leading to the baths paint a unique picture. Vendors selling their wares offer the colorful and traditional style and type of embroidery work. However, the town is also famous for its wood carving. They still practice the oldest decorative method: etching.
Objects and tools of the village's peasant history have been gathered for exhibition in the regional peasant house. Traditional vernacular architecture is preserved in the buildings of the wine cellars row, while the White chapel (Fehér-kápolna) is a witness to 13th-century Romanesque architecture.
A famous bathing spot lies on the edge of Buzsák, the Csisztapuszta thermal bath three kilometres from the village centre. It may also be reached by narrow-gauge railway from Balatonfenyves at the lake shore.
How to get there:
By public transport, take the railway to Lengyeltóti via Fonyód or Kaposvár,
from where the local bus line serves Buzsák. By car if approaching from
the direction of Kaposvár or Fonyód, turn off at Lengyeltóti.
