Dombovar
In addition to the natural scientific collections, the settlement has become known for the nearby resort and spa baths of Gunaras.
Part of the Dombay family estate during the Middle Ages, the settlement was named after the castle of the owners. The castle built on an island rising out of the Kapos marshlands was first mentioned in a charter of 1313.
Less than 5 kilometres from Dombóvár is Gunaras, famous for its spa baths. The thermal waters found here have been utilised since the end of the 1960's.
The bathing facility that opened in 1973 quickly gained national recognition. In 1977 its waters were declared to have healing qualities and the bathing facility was designated a medicinal baths. In 1981 the baths and its support services were officially declared a resort.
Also a part of Dombóvár, Szőlőhegy is a pleasant destination for an outing.
How to get there:
By rail, Dombóvár is served from Budapest, Kaposvár, and Pécs. By bus, local Volán buses serve the settlement from Szekszárd and Siófok. By car take Route 61 or from Pécs and the south, Route 66 and 611.
