Etyek Cellar Festival (Pincefesztival)

The cellars of Etyek play host to the best Hungarian vintners every year in mid May. The Cellar Festival is principally a gastronomic event, but the two-day series of programmes also includes other forms of entertainment, as well as musical and cultural events. The organisers make sure that there is lots of activities for children, too.

The Cellar Festival is primarily organised to promote the most famous local wines. Consequently, there is a wine beauty contest and visitors can learn about the art of wine tasting and even try the rather unusual combination of chocolate and wine.

Alongside these are the regional gathering of brass bands, the opening of fine arts exhibitions, a fish-soup cooking competition, performances by singing ensembles, and pop and folk concerts. During the two-days event, equestrian programmes will delight horse lovers, and there is a fair offering woven goods, handmade rugs, pottery, jewellery and other handicraft products.

Various traditional local dishes can be tried out with the range of excellent wines produced here. Dough (lángos) fried on the spot, cooked knuckle of pork (főtt csülök) and various grilled meat dishes are just a sample of the abundant delicacies on offer. Felting, weaving and platting, beadwork, claywork, grinding, kneading, bread baking, pita baking, archery, sporting competitions and a children's 'playhouse' ensure that everybody will find something to suit their taste, old and young alike.
