Gyenesdias
Gyenes and Diás merged in 1840 into a single independent town. Today, Gyenesdiás is one of the important resorts of the Lake Balaton shore and boasts a marina, beaches, horse riding schools and numerous other establishments designed for rest and recreation.

In the area of present-day Gyenesdiás there were once three villages. Gyenes, the western part of the current settlement, was mentioned in 1696 as having been the vineyard of the Árpád Age village of Falud. Diás, the eastern part of the current settlement, most probably received its name from the walnut trees (dió) native to the area.
The history and traditions of the community are collected in the period-furnished Shepherd's House (Pásztorház), along with an exhibition of archaeological finds. Among the architectural heritage, it is worth mentioning the Darnay wine cellar from 1644 and the chapel consecrated to St Helena built in the early 1800's.
How to get there:
By railway the town is served from Keszthely or Tapolca. From Keszthely Volán buses run there; there also are direct bus connections from Veszprém via Tapolca and from Balatonfüred running along the northern shore. By car from Keszthely or from the east, take Route 71 running along the northern lake shore.
