Hungarian Aviation History Museum (Magyar Repüléstörténeti Múzeum), Szolnok
At the country's only exhibition of aviation technology, the technical equipment, military and civilian aircraft that have survived the tribulations of history are exhibited outdoors and in a hangar.
On show are MiG fighters, spectacular giants such as the IL-18 and the TU-134, but also a graceful L-29 Dolphin jet trainer, an AERO-45 utility aircraft and a PZL-104 Wilga, along with many other rarities including not only planes, but a number of helicopters as well.
Using photos, documents, personal effects and other artefacts, the museum presents the 100 years of Hungarian aviation history at three separate sites, each devoted to a theme.
The Institute of Aviation Technology opened its Aviation Technology Collection to the public in 1973. At that time, the collection consisted of 6 aircrafts and 2 aircraft engines: a PO-2 Pacsirta (Lark), a JAK-11 Ölyv (Hawk), a JAK-18 Fürj (Quail) an AERO-45 Kócsag (Egret), IL-28 jet bombers and an AS-21, and AM-42 engines. Thanks to continuous development, by the 1990's the museum had become one of the most notable of such collections in Central Europe.
