Kaposvar and the Somogy Hills
Kaposvár, the most important settlement in the small region, is also the seat of Somogy County.
Alongside the museums and heritage of Kaposvár, visitors will also find plenty to see in the smaller surrounding settlements. Heritage of significant historical events of the struggle against the Turkish are preserved at Szigetvár Castle. One particular attraction is the one-street museum village around the Reformed church in the centre of Szenna which preserves its local ethnic traditions.
Alongside the flat lands covered in drifting sands, much of the Somogy Hills are cloaked in deciduous woods. Among the plentiful natural assets found here the Boronkamellék Landscape Protection Area and the Zselic are of particular note, as are the game stocks of the forests, the fishing ponds developed along the water courses and the bird life.
