King Louis II Memorial (II. Lajos-emlekmu), Mohacs

The King Louis II memorial is located north of the town where the road leading to town and Csele Stream cross. According to legend, this is where the king died following a lost battle fought with the Turkish in 1526.

A lion guards the top of the monument. The reliefs depicting the death of the king are the work of sculptor György Kiss.

Hussar lieutenant of 1848, Soma Turcsányi, initiated and financed the erection of the original memorial in 1864 in memoriam of those who died in the battle. However, since the sculpture did not meet with success it was remodelled in 1897.
