Mediawave International Film and Music Festival, Gyor

"Festival of the traditions of the present and the future" is the motto of the Mediawave International Film and Music Festival held in Győr from the end of April to early May. The festival initially became known as an international film festival.

The film festival is partly an international competition of short (short feature, animation, experimental), documentary and (non-standard) feature films. Usually several hundred films from several dozens of countries are entered into the competition by their creators. From these the pre-jury selects those which may take part in the festival. The films which make it into the festival are then judged by an international jury in the course of the festival and the winners receive valuable prices.

Complemented with a varied music programme the highly acclaimed film festival has developed into a sensational general arts festival. Jazz, and improvisations, blues, world and authentic folk music, as well as underground, are all to be found on the musical palette. During the festival an international improvisation workshop is organised in which musicians from different musical backgrounds experienced in improvisation work towards a full orchestral piece. Young talents, musicians recognised in their country of origin, mature and world famous artists all work together on the production.
