Nagyatad and the southern Inner Somogy
The centre of this region, Nagyatád is known first and foremost for its thermal baths and statue park.
Most of the area is covered in drifting sands. Water often remains in the depressions between the sand dunes and the most famous of the resulting ponds and lakes is the Baláta Lake near Kaszó. Declared protected as early as 1942, even insectivorous plants live in the water and at its edge. The Rinya, a tributary of the left side of the River Dráva, cuts the landscape in two from north to south.
The earliest recognised thermal waters in Somogy County, the Nagytatád baths have been providing curative waters since 1906. The Csokonyavisonta baths are also popular. Nagytatád also boasts the Nagytatád International Wood Carving and the Sculpture Park which has been exhibiting the monumental statues created in the town since 1975.
