National Dance Theatre (Nemzeti Tancszinhaz), Budapest

Ballet, contemporary dance, folk dance, and eurhythmics are all to be found in the repertoire of the National Dance Theatre (Nemzeti Táncszínház). The most highly acclaimed Hungarian and foreign dancers perform here.

The theatre's auditorium seats 254 people. There is also a dining hall (refektórium) for 100 people and a gallery.

The building has been host to the National Dance Theatre since 2001. Originally to provide entertainment for public servants, the theatre was first opened in 1787. The first theatrical company to use the Hungarian language performed here in 1790, while Ludwig von Beethoven gave a chamber-music concert on 7th May 1800.

The building was seriously damaged during World War II. After its restoration it reopened to the public in 1978 as the central venue of the People's Theatre (Népszínház). Between 1983 and 2001 it acted as the studio theatre of the National Theatre (Nemzeti Színház) and the Pest Hungarian Theatre (Pesti Magyar Színház).
