The Gothic castle was built between the 14th and 15th centuries on the site of a 12th-century castle. For centuries, it was the engagement gift for queen consorts. Its heyday was under King Louis d'Anjou (Nagy Lajos király).

The Castle of Eger with the István Dobó Caste Museum inside is amongst the most visited and most well-known monuments in Hungary.

Designed by József Hild, this Classical cathedral was erected between 1831 and 1836. It is 93 metres long, its cupola 18 metres wide and the twin towers 54 metres high.

Built between 1927 and 1930, this neo-Renaissance mansion imitates the style of the hunting residences of the King Matthias era.

In the nature
The most well-known stalactite cave at the World Heritage Site is Central Eastern Europe's largest cave-system. The giant rock-halls and enormous dripstone-enigmas of this active karst cave, where a stream also runs sometimes, conjure up a mysterious fairy-tale land.

The 18,093 hectares of the Borsod Plain Landscape Protection Area (Borsodi Mezőség Tájvédelmi Körzet) is a transition between the Great Plain and the Bükk Hills.

Hungary's only herd of hucul horses can be seen on the pastures of Gergéslápa. The National Blue Path (országos kék túra) and the Tohonya-Kuriszlán study path take you to the spot, but a few horses from the herd can also be seen at the Manor House (Kúria) in Jósvafő.

These prehistoric finds are more than 20 million years old close to Ipolytarnóc. It is the world's third richest footprint find site.

Covering a 141-hectare area, the Hollókő Landscape Protection Area was created to protect pastures dotted with ancient, solitary trees and traditional strip vineyards.
