“Porcelain–Pécs–Zsolnay” Contemporary design at the Zsolnay Factory. Porcelain and ceramic art symposium and exhibition.

The Zsolnay Factory has played a significant role in Central Europe during the past one hundred and fifty years. The products of the Zsolnay Factory have always been contemporary: porcelain products have always been designed by renowned contemporary artists.

The ceramic symposium aims to strengthen this trend and once again involve famous artists and young designers to produce new innovative product lines based on the Zsolnay’s technology.

In the first year of the program, in 2008, ten Hungarian artists (including living legends as Ilona Keserü, Sándor Pinczehelyi and Imre Schrammel and also young, successful designers, for example, Zsolt Czakó) expressed the artistic possibilities inherent in Zsolnay porcelain.

The year 2009 focused on an international ceramic and porcelain research program, workshops and also a symposium. At the 2009 symposium, legendary Hungarian and European artists and young talents worked together to develop new products for Zsolnay Porcelánmanufaktúra Zrt.

2010 has two main goals. Firstly, the symposium will be attended by the most successful artists of the past two years, based on themes similar to previous years. The project will aim at present
achievements as well.

Secondly, an exhibition will be organized from the artistic achievements of the past three years, which will be one of the highlights of the Zsolnay Cultural District.
