Provostal church of the Annunciation (Gyumolcsolto Boldogasszony), Turje
One of the earliest Premonstratensian abbey churches, it was built by French masters around 1230 and has remained almost unchanged. Originally Romanesque, it was subsequently refurbished in an early Gothic-Gothic style.
A stone-framed tabernacle with a wrought iron door from 1478 was integrated into the south wall of the nave. On this wall a medieval fresco depicting a scene from the legend of St Ladislaus was uncovered.
In the 16th century the building suffered damage several times and was restored only in the 18th century. In the train of reconstruction the originally semicircular sanctuary was rendered square, a chapel was attached to the north side, and the porch received a Baroque frame. Stephan Dorffmeister painted the more recent frescos between 1761 and 1763.
