Statue of Elizabeth and rock mound (Erzsebet-szobor), Godollo
The statue of Queen Elizabeth standing in Elizabeth Park and the rock mound behind it, preserve the memory of the wife of Franz Joseph, Austrian Emperor and King of Hungary, endearingly referred to as Sissi. She enjoyed spending time in the Royal Palace at Gödöllő.
On the top of an octagonal pedestal carved from Zebegény trachyte, a female figure adorned by a floral garland depicts Queen Sissi in her simple yet noble way, holding a parasol and a few flowers in her hand. The two and half metre-high bronze statue is the work of sculptor József Róna.
The rock mound rising behind the statue, also erected to the memory of the matron referred to as 'the queen of Hungarians', was designed by sculptor György Zala.
Franz Joseph, Queen Elizabeth's husband, was present at the unveiling of the statue in 1901.
