The Statue of Pallas Athena, protector of all cities and states, stands on the Tárnok road side of the square. The original was carved by the Italian master, Carlo Adami, and gifted to Buda in the late 1700's in order to win citizenship of the city.
The carved limestone statue is 150 centimetres tall. Pallas Athena is depicted sitting with the Buda coat of arms resting on her knee and supported with her right hand; she is holding a bronze lance in her left hand. A small copper plate reminds us that she is Athena the City Guardian.
The statue on display today is a replica made in 1964.
