The season opening festival traditionally takes
place in mid June and then towards the end of June a national handcraft market
is held. Later, amongst other events, towards the end of July a beach football
championship, a memorial sailing competition and a beach volleyball competition
are organised.
In August events include the swim across Lake
Tisza, a canoe orienteering competition on the lake, the Blue Ribbon Bay Circuit Open
Sailing Regatta of Lake Tisza, and an international festival called 'Folk
and Sport Games of Szalók'. In honour of the national holiday celebrating the
birth of the state-founding King St Stephen on 20th August a
major festival takes place which also acts as an official closing of this series
of events.
However, even in late summer and early autumn a
variety of programmes are staged leading up to the grape harvest festival in
early October.
