Szekszard and the Tolna Hills
The centre of the region, Szekszárd is the seat of Tolna County. Significant portions of the area belongs to the Tolna Hills (Völgység, Hegyhát, Szekszárd Hills) and the adjacent South Mezőföld, Sárköz and the rolling hills along the Kapos-Koppány.
In terms of tourism the prime attractions are the Danube, the natural environment, folk culture and the historic wine region. The Gemenc Forest and the Gyulaj Reserve are world famous in hunting circles and have provided numerous award-winning fallow deer trophies. There are also villages around here that retain the traditional costumes and customs of their ancestors. Gems of the Sárköz ethnography are the villages of Őcsény, Decs, Sárpilis and Alsónyék. The Szekszárd Hills are one of the most renowned wine areas in Hungary.
