The City of Godollo and the Godollo Hills
The
flora and fauna of the region to the east of the Danube is very varied.
Settlements equally significant in terms of economic and academic history are
to be found here which also preserve great cultural history and folk art
treasures.
The centre of the region is Gödöllő. The city's main attraction is the largest Baroque heritage in Hungary, the Royal Palace where Franz Joseph I and his wife Elizabeth (affectionately known worldwide as Sissi) spent much time. The city was one of the centres of the Secession style, the memory of which is preserved in the city museum. Part of Gödöllő, Máriabesnyő has a famous pilgrimage church. The Gödöllő Landscape Protection Area is a large continuous stretch of protected land.
