The Szigetkoz and the Moson Plains
This landscape is ruled by the waters. The largest settlement is Mosonmagyaróvár, other towns known for their border crossings are Rajka towards Slovakia and Hegyeshalom towards Austria.
Covering 375 square kilometres the Szigetköz lies between the Moson Danube and the Great Danube (called Old Danube by the locals). This landscape dotted with islands is rightly known as the child of the Danube since the floods controlled life here. The islands of the Szigetköz vary in size; there are those upon which a single tree stands and those accommodating an entire village.
Explore the archaeology, ethnography and local history of the Moson Plains as demonstrated by the objects and documents held in the Hanság Museum in Mosonmagyaróvár.
