Lake Tisza
Lake Tisza is as popular amongst those who like to relax in the quiet of nature as amongst water sports enthusiasts. The bird reserve of the lake is a protected natural asset.
Lake Tisza is located at the meeting point of several landscapes and four counties (Jász -Nagykun-Szolnok, Heves, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Hajdú-Bihar).
Alongside those
spots suitable for fishing, bathing and water sports, there are quiet
villages and settlements rich in heritage. It is an excellent starting
point for trips toward the Jászaság, Greater Cumania, the Hortobágy,
the South Borsod Plain (Dél-borsodi-síkság) and the Heves Plain (Hevesi-síkság).
Lake Tisza has a surface of 127 square metres; it is 27 kilometres long
and the total surface of the islands of the lake is 43 square
kilometres. The average depth of the water is 1.3 metres and the

Thanks to the
fortunate proprieties of the lake there is space for everyone here:
those fond of animated beach life, the family looking for quiet
relaxation, the angler, and the nature lover wanting to observe flora
and fauna.
Dotted with islands,
edged with peninsulas and reed beds the lake makes for exciting rowing
tours. The lake can also be cycled around and it is truly worth
undertaking such an adventure.
Many bird species find their perfect nesting places around Lake Tisza. The 9 types of habitats of the Lake Tisza Bird Reserve (Tisza-tavi Madárrezervátum) provide the right conditions for an astonishing 199 bird species. The 2500-hectare Nature Reserve which belongs to the Hortobágy National Park (Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park) can be visited only with a guide.
