Turje
The village's main attraction is the Premonstratensian church built by French masters around 1230, and the former monastery.
Türje is an ancient settlement and the origin of its name is still uncertain. Serbian or Croatian roots are suggested while others hold that the word stems from Count Thyrle Lampert who established the Premonstratensian provostry in 1184. Although this date is considered the foundation date of the village, it is more likely that the settlement itself was created in the early 13th century by a member of the Türje clan, Dénes of Szentgrót. A favourite of King Béla IV, he in several instances served as a palatine and as a governor ('bán') of Slavonia.
How to get there:
By railway, the village is served from Zalaegerszeg, Tapolca, Celldömölk, and Győr. Volán buses serve the village from Zalaegerszeg and Sümeg. By car look north of Keszthely and Zalaszentgrót, west of Sümeg.
